I am very pleased to have the opportunity to undertake the role of Chairman within the Older People’s Assembly.
I should begin by giving you some details of my background. Work for me started in the City, after which I spent most of my career with British Gas, working within the South East of Essex. Following redundancy I became the licensee at a local food hall.
Until last May I had served for some years as Southend Councillor for Prittlewell Ward. This gave me an insight into the workings and financing of the Borough Council and during my time as a councillor there were many improvements I, and I am sure many of you would have liked to see made but financial dictates meant some difficult choices and prioritisation was necessary.
I am personally pleased to find that the current Administration have seen fit to retain both Priory House and Delaware House and I know this has been a matter of concern to other OPA members as well. On behalf of the OPA I intend to continue to monitor the issue and keep members informed.
My current commitments are to the Assembly, my local residents association and work with Southend National Trust Branch. I am looking forward with your support and help to being a Voice for the Over 55’s of Southend Borough - “together we can achieve so much more” and I hope to strengthen the lobbying power of the Assembly, whilst keeping you the members, up to date with information concerning changes that affect our age group.
