Treasurer & Newsletter Editor
I have been a member of the OPA since it first began back in 2007. At that time I attended as an associate member in my capacity as Head of Supported Housing with Southend Borough Council and latterly South Essex Homes. Since retiring in 2010 I have continued to support the OPA and for two and half years I looked after the finances as Treasurer until 2102 when I relinquished this task to enable me to focus on some of the other aspects of the OPA activities including Editor of The Assembly Times our quarterly newsletter and helping to co-ordinate our annual public event and more recently assisting in revamping and developing both our website and publicity material. In 2014 I again took on the role of Treasurer and currently continue to fulfil this function.
I am a wife and mother, a regular communicant at my local church and have participated in promoting Older Peoples Interests within the wider church. My husband is Ronald and he is still very active with a number of voluntary roles in the community. I am a keen gardener, enjoy dining out, love having family & friends round to eat with us and my favourite holiday destinations are Cyprus and Cornwall.
I am passionate about Older Peoples issues and feel that my 25 years working in Older Peoples Services, having been a full-time carer for my mother and an ‘oldie myself’ that I want and should take an active interest in my community and use my experience to support the OPA.
Southend is a good place to be but we must continue to address & highlight Older People’s issues and the OPA is an ideal platform for this and I am delighted to be involved with the OPA.
