I have been involved with Southend Older Peoples Assembly for several years and was appointed to the position of Chair in 2012. A position I held until March 2015 when because of health issues I stepped down and for a while served as an active committee member. In august 2015 I again took office and this time as Vice Chair. A post that is supportive to the chair but does not require quite so much of a commitment from me. I am confident that I shall continue to represent you the voice of the over 55’s pro-actively and that together we can make a difference.
Westcliff-on-Sea has been my home for the past twenty years. Previously I was employed as a residential carer where I gained a wealth of experience in the support and needs of an ageing population and those with mental health and drug misuse issues.
After my discharge from the Black Watch Regiment in 1960 I became a professional musician playing trombone in and around London and I have also been Musical Director for Summer and Christmas shows in various parts of the UK. For relaxation I enjoy angling, painting in oil and water colour, listening to classical and light music and more recently walking my dog, Maisie.
I strongly believe that this town needs a complete overhaul of bus routes and services and as a committed member of the OPA I am confident that along with the membership we can bring about changes for the better for Older People in Southend on Sea.
