DAVE MONK DL, LL.B (Hons), MSc. Solicitor (non practising)

Honorary President

Born in Essex, I’m a Southend boy – my mum had a haberdashers (now that’s an old fashioned word for you) in the Broadway in Thorpe Bay; I went to Thorpe School and then Thorpedene School when it was first built, so I have a huge affection for the area and enjoy doing my bit in any way I can. I’m fiercely passionate about this county and its attractions.

My working background is varied having been a Solicitor, Law Lecturer, Businessman, Trainer and Entertainer in addition to my more recent broadcasting work. I’m now Patron of many Essex Charities, a Director of the Essex Book Festival, Honorary Fellow of the North Essex NHS Foundation University Trust and Ambassador of the Guiding Movement.

Some years ago I was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for Essex in recognition of my contribution to the county. I’m an award winning mid-morning presenter on BBC Essex and have championed the cause of older people for many years and so I am honoured to be chosen as Honorary President of the Southend Older People’s Assembly.

I hope I can add real value to the organisation and help promote the interests of older people but I still find it rather odd that such an organisation as this is needed in this day and age, but needed it most definitely is. I’ve still got a very loud voice and it’s behind you all the way so I want to support the OPA in bringing the very real issues concerning older people into the public domain.
